Labelling of Food Products
Prepackaged food products must include the following information, among others:
- the list of ingredients
- the minimum shelf life
- the nutritional values
- information on allergens
- the quantity of product in the package
More information on allergens can be found on the FPS Public Health website.
Food labels should not be misleading. All food information must be clear, accurate and easy to understand. The quantity indication on the label must accurately reflect the actual quantity of the product at the time of sale to the consumer. The net weight must be stated.
The information on the consumer label must be written in the language(s) of the region where the product is sold. Specifically, this means Dutch in the Dutch-speaking part of the country, French in the French-speaking part, and both languages in the Brussels-Capital Region.
