Package Holiday: Trip cancellation or Transfer to Someone Else

You are never entitled to a cooling-off period when you book a package holiday, even when booked online.

Therefore, if you cancel the booking, the tour operator or travel agent may charge a cancellation fee, which can never exceed the total price of the trip.

Usually, the tour operator sets the cancellation fees in its general travel conditions, based on the time of cancellation before the start of the package holiday. If you cancel the trip shortly before the departure date, you usually owe the full price of the trip.

The tour operator must provide justification for the cancellation fee amount if you request it. If you cancel a trip due to force majeure, the tour operator or travel agency must fully refund all amounts paid within 14 days.

If you have cancellation insurance, your insurer may cover part or all of the cancellation costs in specific cases, such as illness or the death of a family member. Please refer to the terms and conditions of your insurance contract.

You may transfer your package holiday to a person of your choice. You will have to notify the tour operator in writing or by e-mail at least 7 days before the trip. You may be charged for that.
